  • Emma Seaborn

    Coach – Toro Girls

    NCCP Competition-Introduction Certified / Competition-Development Trained.

    Emma is the 2024 Team Canada U20 Girls National Team Head Coach. He will lead the team at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia in August 2024.

    Emma has been playing Ultimate since 2003 and has a wealth of experience at national and international tournaments, playing the majority of her career with Toronto Union. On the world stage, she has played twice with Team Canada at WBUC, and coached Team Canada U20 Women at WJUC in 2018 and 2024. Emma has been coaching with Elites since 2014 and is continually working to improve and refine the Toro girls program. She is an NCCP-trained coach in Ultimate and Alpine Ski. Emma is committed to keeping girls in sport and believes that female coaches are essential role models for female athletes. She is looking forward to another great season with Elites!

    Rob Grundy

    Coach – Toro Boys

    NCCP Competition-Introduction Certified / Competition-Development Trained.

    Rob is the 2024 Team Canada U20 Open National Team Head Coach. He will lead the team at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia in August 2024.

    Rob has coached in the Toronto Elites Ultimate system since 2014, including coaching Toro Open to CUC gold and bronze medals. He is an NCCP-certified coach in ultimate and alpine skiing and has coached internationally with Canada U20 Open as Head Coach in 2024 and Assistant Coach in 2022. Rob also brings a long history of grassroots coaching through work with Toronto Ultimate Club U19 programs, Toronto District School Board elementary ultimate, and international playing experience at PAUC and WMUCC.

    Evan Phillips

    Director – Elites Ultimate

    NCCP Competiton-Introduction Trained

    Evan began playing ultimate in 1993 in Toronto and hasn't stopped since. Moving to Victoria, B.C, in 1996, he played ultimate, went to school, and enjoyed the West Coast lifestyle. Toronto drew him back for the formation of GOAT in 2002. Evan coached the Toronto RUSH, the professional ultimate team competing in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) from 2013-2015. In his inaugural year as a coach, the team went undefeated with an 18-0 record, winning the AUDL championship. He was also the assistant coach of Team Canada U23 Open in 2015, which captured silver in London, England.

    As the coach of TORO Boys, he has led the team to five CUC Jr finals appearances, taking home the gold three times.

    Carla DiFilippo

    Technical Director
    Coach – HAVOC Girls

    NCCP Competiton-Introduction Trained and Learning Facilitator.

    Carla is the 2024 Canadian National Womens Team Head Coach. She will be leading the team at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia in August 2024.

    Carla has been playing Ultimate since 2006. Quickly grasping the game and putting in the extra work needed, she won her first Canadian Nationals in 2009 with Lotus. Her desire and commitment to ultimate paid off once again in 2010 when she had the opportunity to play in the finals of the USAU club championships as a member of the Capitals. Building on this success, she was a member of Team Canada at the WUGC in Japan in 2012. In addition to playing Ultimate, Carla dedicates much of her time to coaching at the high school and junior club levels in volleyball and ultimate, where she holds NCCP certification in both sports. In 2013, her high school girls’ volleyball team was OFSAA champions. She was also the assistant coach of the 2013 Team Canada U23 Women, who finished third at the World Championships. In 2014, she was the assistant coach of the Team Canada U20 Women, who finished second at the World Championships in Italy. In 2016, she was the head coach of the Team Canada U20 Women, who finished with the gold at the World Championships in Poland. In 2019, Carla was the assistant coach of the Team Canada U24 Women, who won bronze at the World Championships in Germany.

    Carla was the coach of Team Canada for the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, AL.

    Gabe Isaac

    Coach – Toro Girls

    Gabe has been coaching Toronto juniors since before Elites even existed! He got his start coaching Overdrive Women and joined Eli’s inaugural season coaching Toro B Open. He continued work with Uproar Open through 2018 and coached Uproar Women in 2022 before joining the Toro Women staff in 2023. Gabe shares his passion for ultimate with the athletes he works with, always encouraging fun, competitiveness, and improvement.

  • Vikki Shimoda

    Coach – Havoc
    Vikki is the 2024 Team Canada U20 Mixed National Team Head Coach. She will lead the team at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia in August 2024.

    Vikki started playing Ultimate in 2003 when she moved to Toronto from Newfoundland. In 2006, she toured with Zen when they attended the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) 2006 in Halifax, and she fell deeply in love with the sport. Vikki started playing in the Mixed division with several teams, including Zen, Big Hammers, and Tundra. In 2013, she was part of the inaugural Women’s Masters year in Canada, competing with Terra and earning a Silver at CUC. Playing with Terra engendered a passion in Vikki for women in Ultimate. Vikki is known on the field for being sneaky and timing the perfect cut to be open in the end zone for the goal. She feels it is equally important to give everything on the field playing as it is to be a strong team member and always support your team from the sideline. The sideline is your 8th person on the field, and you must have a strong voice to help your teammates succeed. She has been a long-time member of the Toronto Ultimate Club and has been involved with many aspects of the organization over the years. Vikki looks forward to a new season with Toronto Elites Ultimate, especially with TORO Girls!!

  • Sarah Lam

    Coach – Toro Girls

    Sarah has been playing ultimate since 2014, when she was introduced to the sport at McMaster University. Since then, Sarah's desire to compete has led her to join the Toronto Mixed club system, playing on Zen and Union. Her most recent accolades include playing at WUCC in Ohio as a member of Union and a gold medal in the Mixed Division at the Canadian Ultimate Championships in 2022. Sarah seeks to continue growing the sport in the communities she is a part of and is passionate about developing young athletes. As a teacher, she is involved in coaching her high school's ultimate team, and you can also catch her helping out at TUC junior programs. Sarah joined Elites as a coach in 2022 and is excited for another great season with the program!

  • Matt Murl

    Coach – Uproar Girls

    Matt has played Ultimate for over 25 years, mainly at the competitive league level. It's been a rewarding experience, providing many great friendships and memories over the years. Since becoming a very lucky dad of 3 kids, he found his new passion for coaching and can always be found on the sidelines helping out, no matter the sport. His goal is to help the players improve while building great team relationships so that they eagerly look forward to each practice.

  • Nam Ho

    Coach –

    Nam started playing ultimate in 2013 at his middle school and began playing in the Elites Ultimate system with Uproar in 2017. He continued playing with the 2018 and 2019 Toro teams and now returns to Uproar as a coach. Following his time with us, Nam was selected to compete with Team Canada's U20 Open in 2020. He went on to compete with Grand Trunk (2021), Toronto Rush (2022), Houndd (2022), and the University of Toronto (2019-2023). In addition to competing, Nam has volunteered as a coach in our 2019 4v4 Winter program. He is excited to share his experiences to develop the next up-and-coming talents this summer!

  • Edward Bredin

    Coach — Uproar Open

    NCCP Competiton-Introduction Trained

    Edward is a teacher by trade and has coached and played in the Toronto Ultimate Scene for many years. He is one of the head coaches of the University of Toronto Open team and an assistant coach with Union. He coached Satec to a Jr. East Championship in 2020. As an Uproar coach, he will bring his experience and passion.

  • Krystal Dos Santos

    Coach – Uproar Girls

    Krystal has a passion for coaching and developing athletes of all levels. She has been coaching with Elites Ultimate since 2017, having coached both Uproar and Toro women’s teams and also coaches Soccer and Badminton on the side. As a coach, she has helped develop athletes from both Uproar and Toro, winning gold with Toro in 2019, and currently plays alongside some of the players she once coached who now play on her club team and Team Canada.

    As a player, Krystal is one of the captains and players of the Toronto 6ixers, Canadian National Champions since 2017, and finalists in the US championships in 2019. She has played Ultimate on both grass and beach, playing for Team Canada Beach (Women’s) in 2017 and 2023, earning a silver medal at the World Beach Championships, and with Team Portugal Beach (Mixed) in 2019 at the European Beach Championships. She will be heading to Australia this year to play on grass at the World Ultimate Championships with Team Canada women.

  • Michael Leung

    Coach – Toro Boys

    Michael’s Ultimate career began in 2016 with Elites Ultimate’s development team, Energy, where the season culminated in a trip to the Canadian Ultimate Championships held in Edmonton. His love for the challenge and competition of the sport brought him back summer after summer, where he developed and moved through the system. Michael played for UPROAR in 2017 and finished his junior career as a part of the championship 2018 TORO team. Since then, he has moved on to play and take on leadership roles with the University of Toronto’s TULA and Durham’s Houndd, finishing 3rd in Canada in 2022. Apart from competing, Michael is actively involved in developing youth in the Ultimate community. He can be spotted coaching in TUC programs at his former high school and with Elites Ultimate during the summer!

  • Kevin Tong

    Coach – Toro Open

    Kevin is excited to coach Toro Open this year! He looks forward to helping the youth ultimate talent in Toronto and helping them reach new heights using his playing and coaching experience. Kevin is currently playing for the Toronto Rush and has played for Team Canada U24 Open in 2023, as well as UBC, UofT, and Vancouver Red Flag. Kevin has also coached for Vancouver Eclipse and Vancouver Dyno, winning a silver medal at CUC 2022, and a gold medal at CUC 2023.

  • Monica Wang

    Coach – Uproar Girls, Havoc Girls

    Monica's involvement in Ultimate began in 2016 when she was introduced to the sport at her middle school. Initially playing on a seasonal basis, her commitment deepened in 2018 upon discovering the Elites Ultimate System. Throughout her junior career, Monica demonstrated remarkable skills, notably with Toro in 2018, where they secured a bronze medal, and in 2019, achieving gold at CJUC. Her outstanding performance led to her selection for Team Canada’s U20 Women in 2020.

    Transitioning into her adult career, Monica joined Incognito in 2022, followed by a tenure with 6ixers in 2023, culminating in a gold medal victory at CUC. Furthermore, Monica represented Team Canada’s U24 Mix team in 2023, solidifying her presence on the international stage.

    Motivated to give back to the sport and foster the development of young athletes, Monica embarked on coaching with Uproar in 2023, aiming to contribute to the growth of the Toronto junior Ultimate system. She approaches coaching with a blend of technical expertise, strategic insight, and a genuine passion for the game. Her ability to inspire and mentor players transcends mere skill development, instilling in them a sense of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As a coach, she brings a wealth of experience and she is excited to share her knowledge with the students, helping them grow as athletes and individuals.

  • Derek Vigar

    Coach

    Ultimate has given Derek 20 years of lessons, memories, highlights, challenges, character, and friendships he'll pass on while coaching Elites. Derek has coached the Havoc U15 program at George Brown College and led the U17 Wild program at the USAU Youth Club Championships. Off the field, Derek is a College Professor, Lover of All Things Outdoors, and Instagram Caption Aficionado.

  • Chris Kam

    Coach – Uproar Boys

    NCCP Competition-Introduction Certified / Competition-Development Trained

    After playing off and on, Chris finally picked up the disc for good in 2011. His short career belies his love for the sport; he has been a volunteer coach at TUC and run tournaments since then. In 2016, he started coaching at schools around the TDSB and co-founding a seasonal program at Ultrasports in Scarborough. He has encouraged numerous players over the years to take the step into Elites.
